Single and Double Sided Circuits

  • Single Sided Flexible Circuits 

Single sided flexible circuits normally consist of the following components :

A LAYER OF POLYIMIDE
A LAYER OF ADHESIVE
A LAYER OF COPPER
A LAYER OF ADHESIVE
A LAYER OF POLYIMIDE

Either the top or bottom layer of adhesive/polyimide can be drilled or routed to expose the copper layer enabling external connection to the copper layer.

A variety of additions can be made to the flex such as extra layers of polyimide to reinforce a selected area, a piece of rigidiser (e.g. FR4) to make a selected area completely rigid, contact adhesive (e.g. 3M9460) in selected areas to enable instant mounting of the circuit in to a housing etc. These additions can be added to virtually all the circuits we make.

  • Double Sided Flexible Circuits 

Double sided flexible circuits normally consist of the following components :

A LAYER OF POLYIMIDE
A LAYER OF ADHESIVE
A LAYER OF COPPER
A LAYER OF ADHESIVE
A LAYER OF POLYIMIDE
A LAYER OF ADHESIVE
A LAYER OF COPPER
A LAYER OF ADHESIVE 
A LAYER OF POLYIMIDE

In this case there are two separate and unconnected layers of copper which can be accessed independently through the top and bottom adhesive/polyimide.

  • Double Sided PTH Flexible Circuits 

Double sided PTH flexible circuits have the same construction as a Double Sided Flexible Circuit with the addition of plated through hole connections (PTH) that allow a plated connection to be made between the two copper layers at selected points dictated by the circuit designer.

  • Double Sided PTH Flex Rigid Circuits

Double sided PTH  flex rigid circuits normally consist of the following components :

A LAYER OF COPPER
A LAYER OF RIGID MATERIAL (IN SELECTED AREAS)
A LAYER OF ADHESIVE
A LAYER OF POLYIMIDE
A LAYER OF ADHESIVE
A LAYER OF COPPER
A LAYER OF ADHESIVE 
A LAYER OF POLYIMIDE

This type of construction allows for a combination of rigidised and flexible circuitry on one circuit utilising two layers of copper.
